Which machine for which work
| Your work | Machine |
|---|---|
| Many bolt holes, slots and weld-ready bevels on H-beams | H-beam laser |
| Plate, tube and sections in similar amounts | HFT plate, tube and beam laser |
| Thick sections and copes at the lowest machine cost | 8-axis plasma beam cutter |
| Mixed beams, channels and angles on an automatic line | Robotic plasma line |
| Large-diameter pipe with bevels | 6-axis pipe cutter |
Laser
- Round bolt holes and clean slots
- Bevels that fit without grinding
- No tail-end scrap with the H-beam laser
Plasma
- Lower machine cost
- Thick sections, edges ground anyway
- Beams, box sections and pipe on one machine

Common questions
What is a CNC beam cutting machine?
A machine that cuts structural sections such as H-beams, I-beams, channels and angles to length and adds copes, bolt holes, slots, bevels and marks from one program, using a laser or plasma cutting head.
Is a laser or plasma beam cutter better?
Laser gives round bolt holes, clean slots and weld-ready bevels with no tail-end scrap. Plasma costs less to buy and suits thick sections where edges are ground anyway.
Can one machine cut beams, channels, angles and pipe?
Yes. The H-beam laser cuts beams, channels and angles; the HFT adds plate and tube; the 8-axis plasma cutter takes beams, box sections and pipe.
Can the machine read Tekla files?
Yes. Parts are imported from Tekla Structures, Advance Steel or AutoCAD through DSTV files, with contours, holes and marks.
