How to choose the chucks
The chuck is a mechanical device used to clamp the workpiece on the machine tool. It is a machine tool accessory that uses the radial movement of the movable jaws evenly distributed on the chuck body to clamp and position the workpiece.
According to the different power of the chuck, the chuck can be divided into manual, pneumatic, mechanical and hydraulic chucks. Here we will share with you the difference between pneumatic and hydraulic chucks.
Hydraulic chucks are used with large hydraulic oil stroke (hydraulic oil flow, driven by hydraulic pump) in exchange for the thrust of hydraulic cylinder.
Pneumatic chuck is the use of air has the characteristics of compressibility, with a large air pressure, sacrifice pressure in exchange for cylinder stroke.
the advantages and disadvantages of pneumatic and hydraulic chucks
(1) the advantages of pneumatic chucks: high clamping accuracy, long service life; no pollution, low pressure adjustment is convenient and sensitive, less energy consumption. Disadvantages: small holding force, high quality requirements for the cylinder
2) Advantages of hydraulic chuck: large chuck clamping force, heavy cutting stability, clamping force up to 3.5 MPa. disadvantages: dirty, noisy, high energy consumption, low pressure is difficult to adjust.
Second, the difference between pneumatic and hydraulic chucks
(1) hydraulic chucks are suitable for heavy-duty, pneumatic for light-duty;
(2) hydraulic chuck system to connect back to the oil pipe, pneumatic chucks will be gas directly into the atmosphere;
(3) hydraulic chucks and pneumatic chucks according to the compressibility of their media, can be targeted to solve the special problems in their respective fields;
(4) pneumatic chucks are noisier than hydraulic chucks, and need to prepare another air source, while hydraulic chuck system are with hydraulic chuck source;
(5) hydraulic chucks on the oil requirements are very high, very delicate; pneumatic chuck medium for air, the situation is much better than the hydraulic chuck oil;
(6) hydraulic chuck is a liquid as the working medium, the use of liquid pressure energy to transmit power, while the pneumatic chuck is to compressed air as the power source, drive the machinery to complete the expansion or rotation action.
Chucks is high precision tools, pnuematic chucks is very suitable to clamping the small tubes in cnc tube cutting machine, for heavy tubes, we usually choose 1 pneumatic chuck and 1 manual chucks, because if the clamping force is too powerful, it will damage the chucks’s gear
